Significance Of Aviation Lighting
Aviation lighting has been a very interesting subject in the past few years. What makes it more important is the role that it plays in ensuring the smooth functioning of the airports and aircraft. Aviation lighting is associated with providing various airports, remote airfields, military air-bases and a lot of other areas, with the optimum lighting technology in order to make sure that the functioning of such integral place is not hampered in any way.
There have a lot of accidents in the recent past which have thrown light on the need to have a proper obstruction lighting system in place, in order to provide adequate support to aircraft. Accidents occur mainly due to improper lighting conditions during foggy conditions or due to insufficient luminance while performing a turn on the runway or while moving in the hangar in dim lighting conditions.
The solution lies in developing an efficient lighting condition. There are a lot of factors though, which significantly affect this process:
? Proper design of an efficient lighting system.
? Development, supply and installation along the runways, taxiways, control towers etc.
? Portability and maintenance of such equipment.
? Cost of such devices.
While the first two has not been of much problem, the last two have seem to be a major concern for a lot of companies associated with the production of equipment meant for usage in the aviation sector. Such companies have produced different equipment which are being used presently at many airports across the world and have been approved by a lot of the regulatory organizations like the ‘FAA’, ‘ICAP’ etc. But there is a need to develop even more sophisticated machinery which is able to take care of the needs of the aviation sector efficiently. With the advent of new technology, it will be easier to develop new devices which would be able to provide adequate support.
