Introduction to Kitesurfing

If kite surfing is new to you, be smart and start off with the right types of equipments-get a trainers’ kite! This would give you the feel of being in control as it is equipped with fundamental controls - the functions of the control bar is to gain control of the kite against the wind and the flight of the kite itself. There are many safety devices being used, and the dead-man release system is a very essential part of your kite-surfing lesson that must be mastered prior to you get into water. This is a very effective method to help you remain alive if an accident should occur when you are surfing.

The manufacturer’s guide is packed with indispensable information about this mechanism and you can read it if you are inclined. Surely it makes sense to study the controls prior to you deploy the kite. You should be able to control the system only by using your left hand or your right hands, you don’t need to use both! There are various capacities for launch and re launch for every different kite. Actually it is very easy to launch, just place the kite in the direction of the wind and put the board on sand. It is somewhat similar to the methods used in snow surfboarding or land surfing. Just ensure you have the kite placed vertically and the leading side is facing the wind, placing the board on the sand. To be able to maneuver it effectively, you need to visualise the feel of the kite, the strength and limitations. Now start practicing turning it to the left and right and do some 8 figure movements and remember to hover and, lie on both sides, just to get the feel of the ride. These actions should be performed easily without having to glance at the instructions or at your kite.

Once you have learnt these movements, now you can control the direction merely by the feel of the ride. For newbies, control yourself and get a trainer’s kite and practice in light wind conditions. Once you launch the kite, you should be able to maintain its stability. You need to realise how to use the power of the wind to move your kite to directions you want to go, while keeping your body perfectly balanced on the kite board.

This brings you to the ability to control the speed of the kite. There are two types of control that is possible-projected surface and the speed control. Learn how to perform techniques such as tilting, sheeting and reefing to develop surface control. Speed controls are parallel to controlling the kite itself. Basically, it just involves knowing how to speed up and decrease speed. Finally when you have mastered the fundamental skills, you are ready for some exciting, heart stopping actions that requires advanced skills in the leisure pursuit of kite-surfing. Now you can learn to jibe, jump, loop, wave riding, different kinds of rides and execute many tricks while riding!
